Nadir,
Master of Magic. Nadir is a powerful magician.
Namora.
Namora, aka Aquaria Nautica Neptunia, is the cousin of Namor the Sub-Mariner.
She is the only survivor of a human attack, via a submarine, on Namor's
kingdom. When they are finally reunited she follows his model and begins
fighting crime. (After avenging her people, of course) She is an Atlantean,
with superstrength and the ability to live underwater indefinitely.
Nelson
Cole. Captain Nelson Cole is a member of the space police
“Solar Force,” and with his sidekick Bud enforces the laws of the Force,
bringing light to lawless nations. He also, on at least one occasion, becomes
Torro;
on another occasion he visited Earth and stopped World War Two. (!) He
has the usual blaster and spaceship.
Nelvana.
Nelvana is a goddess, the daughter of King Koliak and the sworn protector
of the "Eskimos." She uses her powers to fight against the enemies of the
"Eskimos," which range from the "Ether People" to the Axis powers. She
is aided by Tanero. She can disguise
herself as a mortal, travel at superspeeds, control the weather, and become
invisible.
Neon
the Unknown. Tom Corbet, a member of the French Foreign
Legion, is ordered by his cruel Lieutenant to cross the unforgiving desert
with his troop and attack the savage Mbangi tribe. Corbet is the only survivor
of the trek, the rest having died of thirst and heat, and he's about to
kick off when he finds a strange pool covered with glowing vapors. Corbet
drinks from the pool and instantly gains powers and a superhero costume.
He uses his powers to kill an attacking tiger, then stops a would-be world
conqueror, and then goes on to fight crime and evil and the Germans. He
has "neonic" powers, which boil down to glowing, being able to fly, and
shooting bolts of energy from his hands.
Neptina.
Neptina is the queen of the fish-men, an underwater race which is inimical
to surface life. She is opposed by Lieutenant Brad Fletcher, "the Navy's
best undersea expert."
Nevada Jones. Quoth Michael Norwitz: Nevada Jones has a yellow pullover collared shirt, white hat with black band, black Firebrand style mask, grey jeans, black sash around his neck (almost long enough to reach his waist), regular cowboy boots with no spurs, and one six shooter. Some of his adventures took place in modern day (a la the Vigilante) and others appear to be set in the Old West.First Appearance: Zip Comics #1 (Archie) Newsboy
Legion. Tommy, Scraper, Gabby, and Big Words, four tough,
crime-fighting Brooklyn street kids, discover that tough cop Jim Harper
is actually the costumed crimefighter The Guardian.
They can't let the Guardian take on crime by themselves, so they become
his sidekicks. They have no superpowers but are tough and cunning.
Nick
Carter. This is the comic book version of the dime novel
character. For more information on him, see his
entry on my Fantastic
Victoriana site. The comic book version is an updated one for the
1940s, with Nick being a gentleman adventurer who is of course more than
willing to help the U.S. military when they need him.
Nickie
Norton. Nickie Norton is a top agent for the Secret Service.
Under the command of Inspector McGinnis he fights against America’s enemies.
Night
Hawk. Jack Filan, a wealthy playboy, is the crime fighting
Night Hawk. The Night Hawk is not particularly famous, and when Jack mentions
that he's friends with the Night Hawk his fiancé, Jane Curry, does
not react in any way. The Night Hawk fights against, among other enemies,
a Red Skull-looking master villain called the "Green Skull." The Night
Hawk's costume is all green, with a green, winged helmet. He's very strong
and quite acrobatic.
Nightmare. To quote from the immortal Ronald Byrd: Nightmare and Sleepy, a.k.a. boxer Bob White and his teenage manager (!) Terry Wake (from the Billy Batson employment agency, no doubt). These two are of the once-common but now rare type of super-hero, ordinary people who put on costumes and fight crime without benefit of any super-powers or specialized weapons. They traveled for Bob's bouts and fought crime as they went, the bizarre synchronicity of these appearances evidently occurring to no member of the public. For most of their career, Nightmare wore a skeleton-like costume while Sleepy was dressed in a style reminiscent of the Grim Reaper; a deathless line was issued by someone trying to catch up with the active pair: "Hey, you boogeymen!"First Appearance: Clue Comics #1 (Hillman) Nightro.
Hugh Goddard is blind and can only see at night with the help of special
glasses. He turns his disability to good use and begins fighting crime
at night with the help of his dog Blackie.
Nyoka.
Nyoka, the daughter of Dr. Meredith, is brought to Africa and raised there.
She grows up loving Africa and stays there as a young woman, fighting for
justice. She has no superpowers but is a good fighter, tracker, and shot.
